Assuming that you have been arrested and are waiting to talk to a judge there are a few things you should do to ensure that a bad situation doesn't get worse. What caused the DUI? You need to figure out what chain of events led you to drive under the influence to ensure that it does not happen again. For some people this is just making a plan before going to the bar for a ride home after you are drinking. Some people just need to figure out how much they can actually drink before reaching the legal limit (.08%). The reason you need to figure out what caused the DUI is to keep it from happening again. Facing one DUI charge is bad. Facing two can be catastrophic. A first charge, for instance, is charged as a Class B Misdemeanor. A second charge is a Class A Misdemeanor. If you hurt somebody, cause a death or damage a lot of property a DUI can even be charged as a felony. Get legal help You need to talk to an attorney as soon as possible.
